The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education is an innovative and contemporary degree. It is both
responsive to industry needs and forward thinking in terms of its focus on the development of
scholarship, professional teaching practice and leaders in early childhood education.
The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education prepares students as specialists in the education of children
from birth to eight years.
Graduates of this course will be qualified early childhood teachers, eligible for Victorian Institute of
Teaching registration and employment as pre-school and primary school teachers in Victoria. Graduates
will also be qualified to teach in licensed early childhood settings in Victoria. Graduates wishing to teach
interstate or overseas are advised to check registration requirements with local authorities.
Students who do not meet the entry requirements for this course may commence with the Diploma of
Children’s Services (Early Childhood Education and Care). For more information, refer to page 54. On
completion of the diploma, students will receive one year’s advanced standing towards the Bachelor of
Early Childhood Education. It will take a further three years to complete the Bachelor degree.
Students wishing to undertake this course at MSIT (Brisbane) will need to commence their studies with
the Diploma of Children’s Services. On successful completion of the Diploma, they will get one year’s
credit towards the degree. It will take another three years to complete the degree.

The Bachelor of Screen Production aims to show clearly the relationship between theory and practice
in the broader study of the development of the screen industry, examination of business issues related
to the creative arts industry generally, but which have particular importance for screen production,
and finally in the development and practice of the craft of film-making. Subjects are organised into five
strands of study - The Screen Industry, Production Design, Production Techniques, Writing for the Screen
and Business.
Students must select a major in either animation or live action (short film) and complete the prescribed
sequence of subjects from that major. Students commence specialised studies within the major from
Semester 2, the first semester being devoted to developing core skills and knowledge used in the
production of digital screen media.
Graduates are prepared for work in the film/entertainment industry as a film maker, independent
animator screen writer, film editor, visual effects coordinator, cinematographer, production manager,
sound design coordinator or animation director.
Holmesglen students have been successful in gaining awards at both national and international level.
Students who do not meet the entry requirements for this course may apply for the Certificate IV in
Screen and Media. Refer to page 36 for more information. Students who satisfactorily complete the
Certificate IV in Screen and Media will be eligible for direct entry into the Bachelor of Screen Production.
Students who complete the Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media will be granted credit exemptions
and are able to complete the Bachelor of Screen Production in a shorter duration according to their
University of Canberra study plan.
