Bachelor of

The Bachelor of Building Surveying is designed to meet the professional accreditation requirements
of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors. Building Surveyors are experts in a range of building
legislation, technical codes and construction standards and are responsible for building safety,
accessibility and energy efficiency, which impacts on the design, functionality and structure.
The course focuses on the provision of a foundation of knowledge and skills that prepares students
for a wide range of possible graduate vocational occupations in the building industry taking into
account the high level of mobility, especially at mid-career stage, of professional and para-professional
practitioners. A Problem Based Learning (PBL) delivery method is utilised and provides students with
the skills and knowledge needed to operate effectively across a number of roles in the building and
construction industry.
Graduates will develop an in-depth technical knowledge in building surveying and will be able to
operate independently as a professional within this field. Its strong vocational and building discipline
focus will assist graduates in meeting the academic requirements for membership of relevant
professional bodies in the building sector.
Typical careers that may be available to a graduate completing the Bachelor of Building Surveying with
relevant work experience include Building Inspector or Building Surveyor (NAF Level 1). Employment
opportunities exist with local councils, private firms, government departments, health authorities and
fire services.
Students who successfully complete the first six trimesters (2 years) may choose to exit the course
and will be awarded the Bachelor of Applied Science (Built Environment).
Students commencing in February will be able to complete in 8 trimesters (2 years 8 months).
Students commencing in May and September may require 10 trimesters to complete the award, due to
subject offerings.

The Graduate Diploma of Construction Management and Economics is designed to facilitate upgrading
and mobility of professionals and para-professionals working in the built environment disciplines, to be
appropriately qualified to practise at a professional level in the discipline of construction management
and economics.
The course is designed to meet the professional accreditation requirements of the Australian Institute
of Building and the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors when in combination with a relevant
cognate degree or equivalent.
A Problem Based Learning (PBL) delivery method is utilised for the course.
On successful completion of this course students are eligible to receive the nationally endorsed
Graduate Diploma of Construction Management and Economics and may seek career opportunities as:
Construction Managers, Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors or Professional Consultants.
Graduates will also be eligible to complete further post graduate qualifications in a relevant discipline.
