This course provides participants with a thorough grounding in environmental science; specialised
skills, and knowledge in general land management. As an integral part of the course, students
will be provided with a broad base of technical and practical skills, and field work through onsite
training. Working with Parks Victoria, students will be given a valuable opportunity to train onsite in
natural area restoration programs. This will assist in professional development and lead towards a
career as a land manager.
Graduates of the diploma may seek employment as Park and State Rangers, or as Field and
Technical Staff with government, local councils or private sector agencies. Alternatively, they may
pursue further degree level studies in fields such as conservation and science.
Floristry
Certificate III in
Floristry

This course provides students with the skills needed to begin or advance a career in the retail or
creative floristry industries.
The course focuses on all aspects of floristry techniques and design. Students will learn a complete
range of floristry techniques including hand held, fully wired and base medium designs.
Students will also gain knowledge that when combined with workplace skills enhancement will
enable them to perform the work functions of a florist, in accordance with the National Industry
Competency Standards for floristry.
Horticulture

Horticulture

This course is aimed at those who wish to manage amenity horticultural enterprises, including
nurseries, parks, garden maintenance and community gardens, where a range of skills and knowledge
across the horticultural industry is required.
Students will learn a variety of skills including the management and maintenance of public and private
parks, reserves, gardens, natural bushland and community recreation areas. In addition, students will
gain knowledge in the design and implementation of special plan displays and the provision of advice
on plant selection and landscape solutions for domestic and commercial situations.
The course is suitable for those currently working in the industry or who wish to work in the field and
need to acquire practical and theoretical skills. It is also suitable for those involved in the business or
entrepreneurial aspects of the horticulture industry and need to acquire skills in assessing technical,
economic and supervisory problems.
Graduates of this course may seek employment opportunities as horticulturalists, parks and garden
managers or horticulture enterprise managers. Alternatively, they can undertake further studies in
other streams of Horticulture.
Diploma of
Landscape Design

This course is a specialist qualification for landscape designers. During this course students will
learn a variety of skills including the design, management, implementation and maintenance of
a range of projects. The projects may be in landscaping, parks and gardens, community based
projects or activities undertaken in the commercial or private sector. In addition, students gain
knowledge in contract administration and management, and the provision of advice of plant
selection and landscape solutions for domestic and commercial situations.
The course is suitable for those currently working in the industry as a landscaper and who want
to update and enhance existing skills or for those interested in entering the field and need to
acquire practical and theoretical skills. It is also suitable for those involved in the business or
entrepreneurial aspects of the horticulture industry and need to acquire skills in assessing
technical, economic and managerial problems.
Graduates of this course may seek employment opportunities as landscape designers. Alternatively,
they will be eligible for entry into Holmesglen’s Bachelor of Landscape Design.
