Social Inclusion Program
Commencing a new life in Melbourne can be an exciting, adventurous
and rewarding experience. We understand that settling into a new
academic and social life can also be challenging at times.
Holmesglen’s International Students’ Social Inclusion Program aims to
assist international students to integrate effectively into Holmesglen
and the local Melbourne community. We provide students with access
to information, guidance and support to create greater social networks
that will encourage a positive adjustment to a new life in Melbourne.
We currently provide:

Recreation, Sporting Activities and Tours
Looking for some fun, wanting to meet new friends?
The Holmesglen Recreation Team ensures that Holmesglen students
have opportunities to be part of fun weekend trips, interstate tours,
entertainment, sports, seasonal sessions, exclusive Facebook events
all at a reasonable cost. The recreation team subsidises all activities
so they are very cheap, very popular and a fantastic way to start your
friendship base at Holmesglen.
The recreation team organises a diverse range of trips and activities to
suit everybody - whether it is an interstate Cairns beach holiday, a Mt
Buller ski daytrip or even a relaxation and pampering weekend. There is
bound to be something to suit you.
Another part of our program is Seasonal Sessions, where the
recreation team holds free events at each Holmesglen campus.
Events are broken up into four seasons of the year - Summer Starters,
Awesome Autumn, Wicked Winter and Spring Series. Throughout the
year you are invited to come to the main cafeteria at your campus
for special free events. Some of the celebrations include ‘O’ Week
(Orientation), St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day/Breast Cancer
Awareness, International Comedy, Australian Music, Grand Final and
many more. These events are run for you, Holmesglen students! They
are fun, informative and best of all, FREE!
Holmesglen offers a great range of sporting event days and sporting
teams. Not only can you participate in your favourite sport, but you
can make new friends too. You can join a netball, basketball or indoor
soccer team. It’s up to you.
Academic Skills Unit
Through Holmesglen’s Academic Skills Unit, international students
are provided with a complete study skills support service. This service
is for students undertaking vocational and higher education courses
at Holmesglen and assists with their academic and study skills. The
following assistance is available:
• Assignment formatting and structuring
• Essay writing
• Report writing
• Research skills
• Note taking
• Summarising skills
• Academic referencing
• Study skills
• Time management
• Presentation skills
English Language Centre
Students who are enrolled in English language (ELICOS) programs at
Holmesglen during the week, may enrol in additional English language
classes offered at the weekend, if available. There is no charge for this.
Welfare Support for Students Under 18
It is an Australian Government requirement that all students under the
age of 18 have appropriate accommodation and welfare arrangements
whilst studying in Australia.
This requirement MUST be satisfied before a student visa can be
obtained and MUST remain valid until the student turns 18. Parents
of students under 18 must choose one of the following welfare
arrangement options.
