The Advanced Diploma of Accounting provides practical career-oriented training for middle level
professional accountants.
Graduates of this course may seek career opportunities in the following areas: assistant
accounting duties involving supervision and control of accounting systems; maintaining internal
control systems; preparation of financial statements for reporting entities; analysis of business
performance; preparation of tax returns and business activity statements; or management of a
small team, office or business unit.
Graduates from the Advanced Diploma of Accounting are guaranteed credit of 1.5 years towards
Holmesglen’s Bachelor of Business (Accounting). Alternatively, they may apply for up to 1.5 years
credit into the Charles Sturt University Bachelor of Business Studies at Holmesglen.

Holmesglen offers the Skilled Migration Internship Program: Accounting (SMIPA) to international
students who have completed a Bachelor degree in Accounting in Australia.
This program is approved by the following accounting professional bodies: CPA Australia, the
Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and the Institute of Public Accountants and is
specifically designed to bridge the gap between formal study and the Australian work environment.
The course conforms to the requirements of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship
(DIAC) as a recognised pathway to obtaining points towards migration to Australia. General Skilled
Migration applicants will be awarded 5 points for the completion of Holmesglen’s approved
Professional Year.
The course is 44 weeks in duration and is conducted on Saturdays from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm and
1.30-5.30 pm. There is an internship placement of 10-12 weeks. During the internship, students will
be working normal business hours.
This course is offered at two locations - Holmesglen’s Moorabbin campus and City campus, in the
central business district of Melbourne.
